Development plans
A project vehicle called Milton Keynes Wind Farm Ltd has been set up by Your Energy Ltd to develop the site.
The proposal is to build 7 wind turbine generators with a maximum height to the tip of the blades of 125 metres (410 feet), along with assocaierd infrastructure. The turbines will be five times the height of the large construction crane recently used at the Ousedale School Olney Campus. The huge height of the turbines is necessary to compensate for low wind speeds.
The towers will be approximately 80 metres high and the diameter of the blades will be 90 metres (the wing span of a Boeing 747-300 is 59.6 metres or 195 feet [source: airliners.net]).
Each turbine has the capacity of between 1.3 and 3 megawatts (MW), dependant on the model installed. They have an operational life of just 25 years after which they are decommissioned. The site could then become designated as a brown field site, ready for further industrial development.
